Registrations Now Open for 2026 Going for Gold Charity Golf Day

The 11th annual Going for Gold Charity Golf Day is set to return on Friday 16 October 2026 at the Ballarat Golf Club.

The event was founded by respected local developer and community advocate Greg Walsh. Registrations are now open.

Mr Walsh established the golf day in 2016 in response to the devastating loss of family, friends and colleagues to suicide. Over the past decade the event has become a powerful local tradition raising awareness and vital funds to support mental health in the Ballarat region with a focus on men’s wellbeing.

This special 10th anniversary event will once again support the James Petrie Fund which is managed by the Ballarat Foundation. The fund was created in memory of beloved local teacher and sportsman James Petrie and provides targeted grants for mental health response projects and youth support in our community.

This year, the Ballarat Foundation will distribute almsot $100,000 in grants to projects which focus on young people and mental health responses.

Mr Walsh’s passion for this cause comes from deeply personal experiences. He has lost two brothers and several close friends to suicide. His commitment to preventing further loss has shaped his efforts to bring the issue into the open and support long-term change.
"Suicide is a hard word to say and a hard word to hear" said Mr Walsh. "But I truly believe we can turn things around with education support and connection. Every life matters."

The event brings together golfers from across the region for a day of connection conversation and cause-driven fun. Golfers can register as individuals or teams of four. A barbecue lunch will be served before tee-off.
All funds raised through the day will support local mental health initiatives. It is a chance for the community to come together and take meaningful action for a better future.
