The club is saddened to hear of the passing of Peter Thomson, a five-time winner of the British Open.
He died this morning surrounded by family in his Melbourne home, after suffering from Parkinson's disease for more than four years.
Peter Thomson was the first Australian to win the British Open, going on to win the title five times between 1954 and 1965, only achieved by one other golfer, American Tom Watson. On the American senior circuit he won nine times in 1985 and served as the president of the Australian PGA for 32 years.
In more recent years Peter Thomson designed and built courses in Australia and around the world including our Course designed by team Thomson and Perret in 2009.
Our thoughts go out to his wife Mary and family.
