Ballarat Golf Club

2019 scholarship winners

Last year the Ballarat Golf Club initiated the Junior Scholarship program with the aim to reward one junior golfer in the Ballarat Region with a membership and a number of opportunities that would help with their golf game and provide unique experiences throughout the year. Last year’s winner Rose Britt was a fantastic recipient and going forward the Ballarat Golf Club Board decided to offer two scholarships one to a junior girl and junior boy. We are thrilled to present the scholarships to this year’s winners Millie Cassidy and Liam Howlett.

Millie is a twelve year old from Maryborough Golf Club who has been playing for four years. She loves playing with her family and hopes to get to Ballarat often to play with other girls her age. Just this year Millie has represented Victoria at School Sport Australia Golf Championships, represented BDGI Girls Development Squad/Maryborough Golf Club Junior Pennant Team, playing in 4 rounds where she won 3 matches and squared the other, is a member of BDGI Girls Development Squad 2018 and just last week came third in the School Sport Victoria Primary State Final. We wish Millie all the best for her golf in 2019 and hope to see her around the club.

Liam is a Ballarat member who is very well known around the club. At just eleven years old Liam shows a great talent and passion for the sport and is a very worthy recipient. He is one of the youngest to have been invited into the West Vic Academy of Sport for Golf, has won the Golf Victoria Rookie Series Event in 2018, was named the Regional Champion in 2017 and 2018 in the School Sports Victoria Regional Tournament and has won many club events including the C P Hoskins Match Play, Monthly Medal (the youngest to do so) and the Winter Cup. We wish Liam all the best for his golf in 2019 and thank him for his contributions to golf.

Congratulations also to this year’s finalists Kacee Kirwan-Hamilton and Gemma Gale both awarded a Ballarat Golf Club Junior Membership along with Joel Smith and Alicia Todd both winning a Range Membership from David Wallis Golf.

The most rewarding aspect about the scholarship program for the the club is being able to share the winning recipients golfing journey throughout the year. These Juniors have been chosen because they are great ambassadors not just for our club but for the sport, so by showcasing their achievements hopefully we can grow the game and introduce some new juniors to our club.

Congratulations to all who applied and thanks again to our partners Golf Australia, PGA, Titleist and David Wallis Golf.
