The Ballarat Golf Club is pleased to announce that the PGA National Futures Championship has again been secured for Ballarat in 2019 with round one commencing on Tuesday October 22nd as part of a new two day Pro Am format. The National event has been held at Ballarat since 2014 and brings around 100 of the best Trainee Professionals from around Australia along with international guests for the week long event. PGA Trainee Ben Stowe from Royal Sydney Golf Club won the event last year and set the course record at 7-under 65 in round three.
With a prize purse of AU$60,000, the PGA National Futures Championship currently boasts the highest prizemoney of any PGA Trainee or Apprentice tournament in the world.
“As one of only a few Australian golf tournaments where males and females compete side by side for both prize-money and a national championship the event aligns well with the Ballarat Golf Clubs objective to promote gender equality within the club community” said Ashley Bennet, Ballarat Golf Club GM.
Entries for the Pro Am will open in the coming weeks with a one day or two day option available. The Pro Am will be played on Tuesday 22nd October and Wednesday 23rd with presentations and an event gathering on the Wednesday after play.
“ We are encouraging members to get involved with this PGA and Club event and play in the Pro Am or come along and spectate, with the option of one or two days we hope it will appeal to a good cross section of our members” said Lesa Gray, BGC Vice President
Access to the course on Monday, Thursday and Friday from approximately 2pm to allow for the National Championship to be played.
“We have worked with the PGA to introduce a new two day Pro Am format due to a response from members and our golfing community wanting more access during the event. We believe this format provides a great opportunity for people to get involved with what is the world’s richest trainee professional event and still play our course when our greens staff have it in such great condition” said Ballarat Golf Club President - Wayne Hines
The Futures event provides an ideal platform for Trainees looking to pursue a career as a professional golfer on both the Australian and international tours, former PGA Tour players Rod Pampling, Peter Lonard and Nick O’Hern having competed in the event in the past.
Local and interstate visitors who attend to spectate or play in the Pro Am are guaranteed to be treated to excellent golf by some of Australia’s strongest young trainee professional players. The future of Australian golf will be out to prove themselves worthy of the title of ‘2019 PGA National Futures Championship’. Not only will the winner walk away with a substantial first-prize cheque, they will also secure an entry into the 2020 Australian PGA Championship, with the chance to compete alongside the likes of Marc Leishman.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our valued sponsors of this event and of Golf Month JG King Homes, Unblemished Skin and Laser Clinic, Country Club Villages, Jayco Ballarat, TGB Build, Austbrokers Countrywide, Legacy Landscapes, Ballarat Mazda, Go Transit Australia and Jens Veal Partners. We are looking for a number of sponsors to help support this event as well as a number of community events to be held during October.
